Vietnam dominates int’l music contest in Jakarta

Students from the Vietnam National Conservatoire won more medals than any other group at the International Music Contest in Jakarta, Indonesia last week.

The 12 students, who arrived in Hanoi on Monday, took home four first prizes, one second prize and two third prizes at the contest that pitted 110 contestants from Southeast Asian nations, China and Japan against each other August 6-16.

Do Hoang Linh Chi bagged the title for best pianist under 13 years old, while the remaining three first-prize winners were all violinists, with Hoang Ho Khanh Van topping the under 13 group, Nguyen Thien Minh winning the 14-17 group and Tran Quang Duy taking the over-18 group.

Nguyen Linh Uyen took home the second prize for violinists aged 14-17 while the third prize for violinists of the same age group went to Bui Cam Ly.

Also, Nguyen Luong Minh clinched third prize for pianists under 13.
