The Vietnamese model Chung Thuc Quyen won Best National Dress for her ao tu than (four-part dress), a traditional costume from the north of Vietnam, at a National Dress event August 28, part of the Miss Supernational 2009 pageant in Poland.

Quyen received US$500 in cash for winning this particular title.

The Vietnamese representative expressed her joy when hearing her name and her costume announced at the end of the event. She said happily, “This is the most unforgettable moment of my life. During the whole night after, I hardly slept.”

The Vietnamese model said that an idea to promote the ao tu than, instead of usual the ao dai, in the national costume event of the pageant was simply a surprise choice.

The lass also expected that the traditional costume will bring a new image of Vietnamese culture to other contestants, who are only familiar with the ao dai.

However, Quyen said that she still prefers ao dai for her upcoming events at the pageant.

Quyen, and 80 other contestants, will enjoy their time at a charity auction on August 30.

As scheduled, the Vietnamese women present at the event will present a silk ao dai with a dragon pattern designed by top Vietnamese designer Thuan Viet.

The final is set for September 5. The first prize winner will receive $25,000 in cash, while first and second runner-ups will respectively be awarded $5,000 and $3,000.
