The jury met on September 11 to decide the winners for 2009. Nominees were literary works published from July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009, which were recommended by the media, the public and the association’s members.

The novels entering the final round included: Ma Van Khang’s “Mot Minh Mot Ngua” (Alone on a Horse), Nguyen The Hung’s “Ho Van Chua Ve” (They Still Haven’t Returned) and Nguyen Quang Lap’s “Ky Uc Vun” (Crushed Memories).

There were two poetry collections in the finals: Dang Thi Thanh Huong’s “Tra Nguoi” (Cold Tea) and Chu Hong Tien’s “Pho Dong Thao” and two theoretic works: Do Lai Thuy’s “But Phap cua Ham Muon” (Penmanship of Desire) and Dang Tien’s “Poem – Prosody and Portrait”.

There were three translated works nominated for the finals: Nguyen Ngoc’s “Nhan Thach” (Jelly Ring), translated from French writer Atiq Rahimi’s novel and Quy Vu’s “11 Phut” (Eleven Minutes) translated from a work by Paulo Coelho.

None of the two nominated poetry works received enough votes (over half of the total votes) to win the award.
