New York Philharmonic to perform in Hanoi next month

The New York Philharmonic will give two concerts in Hanoi next month, according to a posting on BroadwayWorld.com.

The orchestra, conducted by Alan Gilbert, will perform at the Hanoi Opera House October 16-17 in their first Vietnam performances.

Tickets cost VND3.5 million (US$196) for VIP seats, VND3 million for first class tickets, VND2 million for second-class and VND1.5 million third-class, according the The Thao & Van Hoa (Sports & Culture) newspaper.

In addition to their performance, the group will meet with teachers and students from the Vietnam National Academy of Music, the newspaper reported.

The group’s tour to five Asian countries will last from October 8 to 24, with their first stop in Tokyo, Japan (October 8-10) and the second in Seoul in South Korea (October 12-13).

After leaving Vietnam, the group will travel to Singapore (October 19-20) and then the United Arab Emirates (October (23-24).

Founded in 1842, the New York Philharmonic is the oldest symphony orchestra in the United States and one of the oldest in the world. It has visited 425 cities in 59 countries and territories since its inception.
