The local police on August 31 didn’t allow Dem Vong Café on Vong street, Hanoi to hold fashion shows with transsexual models from the Pattaya group.

Tran Quoc Hai, the chief police of Dong Tam ward, Hai Ba Trung street, said that the Dem Vong Café was not licenced to organise fashion shows, only music shows.

“The café’s owner committed to not resume fashion shows with the above model group (Pattaya group) until it got a licence,” Hai said.

Pham Dinh Thang from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Performance Art Department, said that in principle, all fashion shows must have licences and be censored.

“There is no legal document that bans transsexual people from working as models,” Thang said.

The owner of Dem Vong Café said that they are seeking a licence so the Pattaya group can resume their work.

Recently, Dem Vong Café has attracted hundreds of people on Monday and Thursday nights thanks to the fashion shows with a group of transsexual models called the Pattaya group. This group often performs “burning” songs and dances in bikinis.
