LookAtVietnam – While beauty competitions are big news in Vietnam – not everbody was impressed with the recent Miss Teen event.

However, in many eyes the pageant was far from perfect. Viewers told VietNamNet reporters they thought it “was not really a teenage competition”.

They pointed to the high-heeled shoes, the hair styles and the luxurious gowns and asked: is this what teenagers really wear?

Meanwhile elderly people in particular voiced their surprise While admitting that the girls they saw at the contest were all perfectly styled they suggested that perhaps they were a little too perfect.

They questioned whether these ‘princesses’, were, in fact, professionally trained before the contest.

Elderly viewers in particular complained contestants were overly sophisticated, saying that the costumes did not fit their teenage years.

Meanhwile other audience members told reporters said they could not see the simple beauty of the girls even in traditional costumes. Some suggested instead that they should perform in uniform as they might at school.

Miss Teen 2009, which started out four months ago, attracted special attention from the public and media alike. In particular because it brought together Vietnamese sex symbols Diem Hang, Trang Hot and Linh 3B.

The trio were targeted by the local paparazzi with their pictures often ending up on internet forums where they were endlessly commented on.

Educators meanwhile warn that girls should not be given titles like ‘beauty queen’, ‘star’ or ‘beloved girl’.

They should, they say, be made aware that they need to return to normal life and school after the contest where they will ultimately learn to be “useful members of the society”.
