LookAtVietnam – A group of young people from Hue city, have launched a campaign to provide books for disadvantaged children during the Mid-Autumn Festival,

Paper drive: Young people in Hue collect reading material for underprivileged children.

The book collection will bring happiness and solace to poor children, said the group’s leader, Trinh Ngoc Lam.

“We can’t afford to provide school fees or other needs to children like their parents, but we want to instil a passion for reading books among them,” he says.

“With good stories, children will love books, love studying and with abundant knowledge they will be able to do anything.”

Although the central region is prone to stormy weather, the group named “Young Vietnamese of Hue” still keep their chins up in order to mobilise the campaign at schools and offices in the city.

Beside the book-collecting project, the group is also raising money to buy full-moon gifts for children through a piggy bank campaign. People often donate small sums of money and stuff them in the small banks without hesitation.

The group also founded the “Young Vitality Team”, which offers poor children from Mai Duong village, in Hue province with a chance to help protect the environment. Thanks to the group, these children are able to work on meaningful projects that will improve the environment in their region.

Although the children in the central region of the country may have to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival which falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month with storms on the horizon, their packed bookshelves will hopefully warm their hearts.
