Songs depict Ha Noi through eyes of Le Minh Son; Memorial house salutes famed 20th century poet; Culture, tourism week begins in Tuyen Quang

Songs composed by Le Minh Son, which are inspired by Ha Noi, will be performed at the Opera House on October 24 and 25.

Entitled Mot Khuc Song Hong (Songs of the Red River), the liveshow promises to provide the audience with a variety of songs from the composers new collection.

While listening to these new songs, the audience will likely be urged to live, move and even melt into the 1,000 years of Ha Noi’s history.

Memorial house salutes famed 20th century poet

The Commemorative House of To Huu, a famous 20th century Vietnamese poet, opened in the Thang Long International Village, Ha Noi, on Sunday to celebrate the late poet’s birthday.

The 120sq.m house displays thousands of items related to the poet’s life, including books, drafts, and pictures. Also on display are documents and works from the poet’s activities during the revolution.

For the opening, the To Huu Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships to poor pupils from the poet’s hometown and students that are studying at the Ha Noi University of Social Science and Humanities.

Culture, tourism week begins in Tuyen Quang

The opening ceremony for the Ho Tren Nui (Lake on the Mountain) Culture and Tourism Week kicked off in Na Hang District in the northern province of Tuyen Quang on Sunday.

At the ceremony, a 2,500-litre wine jar made by artisan Vu Dinh Cu, was recognised as a Guiness Record in Viet Nam for being the biggest wine jar.

Also at the ceremony, Na Hang received the Labour Order Third Class, from the President. Nha Hang’s 10 historical sites were recognised as National Cultural-Historic Relics including Pac Ta Temple, Song Long Cave, Phuc Lam Pagoda, among others.

Na Hang is famous for the 42sq.km Tat Ke - Ban Bung Nature Preserve, which is the home to over 265 bird species, 90 animal species including the rare snub-nosed monkey.

Canon Photo Marathon comes to capital

The 2009 Canon Photo Marathon officially kicked off in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The contest consisted of three rounds, each of which lasted three hours. After one day of competition, four photographers were awarded top prizes at the event, including one special prize for Chu Duc Minh and three first-place prizes for Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang, Dominic Blewett, and Nguyen Thanh Dat.

Another contest will be organised in HCM City on October 10. The winners of that competition will be able to participate in a free eight-day photography training course in Japan.
