The broadcast, which followed a one-month trial, is the station’s 12th programme for ethnic minority groups. It will be aired three times a day: 6.30am, 11.20am and 7.30pm on FM, VOV1 and at 100MHz.

The 30-minute broadcast will target not only Co Tu people but also 18,000 members of other ethnic minority groups that inhabit the Truong Son mountain range in the central region and share similarities in traditions, culture and language with the Co Tu people.

“The programme not only helps meet the Co Tu’s demand for information, it also helps the management of the localities’ socio-economic development,” said Nguyen Chu Nhac, head of the station’s central region branch.

He said the station’s minority language broadcasts helped raise the peoples awareness of the Party and State policies and laws and preserve the people’s cultural characteristics.

Through these programmes, they get better access to production techniques, economic development methods, health care, sanitation and environmental protection and poverty reduction.

The Co Tu ethnic minority group number more than 65,000 people and inhabit Dong Giang and Tay Giang districts in central Quang Nam province and A Luoi, Phu Loc districts of central Thua Thien-Hue city province.
