VietNamNet Bridge – A 2000m painting to decorate the wall of Hanoi’s Temple of Literature will be drawn by 28 artists and local people.

The 2km long painting will be hung on the wall of the Temple of Literature from December 4-12.

That’s the idea of the Art Liberal group to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Hanoi. The painting will be hung around the Temple of Literature – also known as Van Mieu - between December 4 and 12.

The huge painting will feature the theme Hanoi Legends and will come in five sections - history, the famous , culture, weather, and the people.

The vast majority of the painting is expected to do be done by the general public with professionals only acting as consultants and helping complete the artwork.

Art Liberal leader Tran Lam Binh said that with 2km of cloth, the people will be free to paint. He hopes for great work on the history and life of Hanoi.

“We don’t want painting for experts – we want projects for the community,” Binh said.

The project will be assisted by 28 painters, including 10 from Hanoi, 5 from Hue city, 3 from HCM City and 2 from Germany, invited by the Goethe Institute in Hanoi.

Dr. Peter Burnke, the Goethe Institute’s director, said that he highly appreciates the project and believes that it will positively contribute to Hanoi’s cultural and artistic life. The Goethe has committed to partly finance the project.

Binh hoped that this project will make a national record as the longest painting, which has the participation of the highest number of people in Vietnam.

However, this 2000m painting may be cut into small pieces to auction for charity after exhibition, Binh said.
