Student wins TV song quest

LookAtVietnam – A high school student has won the annual singing contest Ngoi Sao Tieng Hat Truyen Hinh (TV Singing Star) with 39 per cent of the audience vote.

Tieu Chau Nhu Quynh of HCM City’s Tran Phu High School performed two songs, Tri An Am Vang Mua Xuan (Spring Resounds in Tri An) composed by Ton That Lap and Cam On Mua Thu (Thank You the Autumn) by Thanh Tung, praising a love of the country was held at Hoa Binh Theatre on Monday.

Composer Tran Long An, judge of the contest, said Quynh had a beautiful voice that could rouse listeners’ souls. The 19-year-old Quynh also won the performance prize.

The HCM City Conservatory’s Doan Thanh Son won second place with 37 per cent of the total votes.

The contestant from Tien Giang Province sang Dat Nuoc (The Country) by Pham Minh Tuan and Ta Huu Yen, and Dem Ganh Hao Nghe Dieu Hoai Lang (Listen to the Nostalgic Tune at the Southernmost District) by Vu Duc Sao Bien in the final.

Singer Anh Tuyet said he showed confidence, a strong voice and a natural style.

With 25 per cent of the total votes, Nguyen Phu Luan of the city’s conservatory won third place.

“Phu Luan chose a hard path to take, a sign of a true artist,” composer Tran Hieu said.

(Southern Mothers Fight the Enemy with Empty Hands) by Thuan Yen, and Da Trong Chong (Husband Awaiting a Rock) by Le Minh Son were Luan’s performances in the final.

was organised for the first time in 1991 to find young, talented singers across the country.

This year’s final round saw 12 finalists competing in 10 shows held until mid-November.

It featured pop, contemporary folk and patriotic songs that praise Ha Noi, HCM City and Viet Nam’s islands as well as President Ho Chi Minh.

All 10 shows in the city were broadcast live on HTV 9.
