The Australian Consulate will begin receiving applications from Ho Chi Minh City artists for the 2010 Young Artist Grants Program on Monday.

Launched by the City of Melbourne and the Australian Consulte General in HCMC, the program will distribute a total of AUD$5,000 (US$5,600) to 10 local visual artists, the consulate said in a press release.

Applications can be received through February 26 next year. Works by the grant winners will be exhibited in Ho Chi Minh City at a later date.

The program aims to support young emerging visual artists living and working in Vietnam’s commercial hub.

“Programs such as this are extremely valuable, the grants capture the most creative and ambitious work by emerging artists who have had little exposure,” Graeme Swift, Australian Consul General was quoted in the program’s press briefing as saying.
