Young composer Tran Manh Hung has won two major awards from the Vietnam Composers’ Association 2009 for best artistic song and best symphony.

The Vietnam Composers’ Association has announced its Music Awards 2009, with 13 awards for songs. The first prize is presented to Nguyen Tien’s “Doi Do Ngan Nam” (1000 Years of the Transfer of Capital) and the second award goes to three works: Duc Trinh’s Hoa Tim Cung Duong (Violet flowers on the roadsides), Bui Duc Nghia’s Chong Den (Lighting Lamp), and Doan Nguyen’s Tam Su Huyen Tran Cong Chua (Princess Huyen Tran’s inmost feeling).

The first award for artistic songs was presented to Tran Manh Hung’s Giac Mo Mua La (Dream in the Falling Leaf Season) and Ngo Quoc Tinh’s Dong Trang Lung Lieng (Rocking Moonlight). Nguyen Viet Binh won the second prize for “Lo Lang” (Half Way) and Duy Thinh won the third prize for “Thang Muoi Da Lat” (October in Da Lat).

Some categories don’t have a first prize, including traditional musical performance, chorus, and chamber music. The second prize for the symphony-chorus went to “My Lai children” by Le Quang Vu.

With no the first and second prize for chamber music, while three third prizes and three consolation prizes were granted to Do Kien Cuong, Tien Manh, Duc Minh, The Bao, Le Tuan Bao and Nguyen Hay.

Le Vinh Phuc from HCM City won the prize for the children’s song with “Snow white and seven dwarves”.

Tran Manh Hung, a lecturer at the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, won the first prize for symphony with “Le Chi Garden”. This work was performed at the Beethoven Festival in Germany.

Hung was labeled a “phenomenon” taking the two first prizes in two different categories: artistic song and symphony.
