The 400-page Viet Nam Records Directory 2009-10 will list new records that individuals and organisations have set in 13 different fields like arts, literature, music, lifestyle, science and economy.

“The section featuring 100 records involving Ha Noi is of great value for people learning about the capital, which will celebrate its 1000th anniversary in 2010,” said Le Tran Truong An, general director of Vietbooks.

“We hope our book will provide readers useful knowledge on Ha Noi’s history and culture in an entertaining manner.”

The book will also feature records for handicrafts villages around the country based on their history, growth, and other factors. Several hundred colour photos and texts offer detailed information about the records.

Vietbooks collaborated with authorities in Ha Noi and other cities and provinces for the book.

The Vietnam News Agency is working to translate the book into English.

The book, to cost VND290,000 (US$15), will be distributed by the Fahasa bookstore chain in January while the English version will be published later next year.

In 2006 Vietbooks signed a copyright deal with the Guinness World Records to broadcast the latter’s programmes on TV.

The company will soon offer technical support to the US organisation for producing TV shows in Viet Nam and print the Guinness Book of World Records in Vietnamese.
