The exhibition showcases Ha Long Bay’s virtues along with the way the area attained it’s title and it’s development and prospects.

The organising board has also organised a promotional programme to make Ha Long Bay one of the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’, at the exhibition.

Since being listed as a World Natural Heritage site in 1994, the Ha Long Bay Management Board has made significant achievements, published 30 publications to promote the bay and carried out 30 research projects on heritage values, said Ngo Van Hung, head of the board.

Curtains up for traditional opera

Hundreds of artists from 17 cheo (traditional opera) troupes throughout the country have been taking part in a national professional cheo festival held in the northern province of Quang Ninh from yesterday, December 15.

As many as 19 cheo plays will be performed at the event. Directors Doan Hoang Giang and Le Hung will each stage three plays. Playwright Tran Dinh Ngon and Bui Dac Su have written five plays for the festival, despite regulations issued by the culture ministry’s Performing Arts Department that only permits each author to submit no more than three works.

The festival, which is held every five years, will end on December 25.

Heroic epic comes to Ha Noi Opera House

An artistic performance entitled Vang Mai Ban Hung Ca (An Epic Resounds Eternally) will take place this Sunday at Ha Noi Opera House.

The performance will include two parts, the first with the theme of An Epic on Old Citadel will recreate a cruel battle of Vietnamese soldiers against invaders at the Old Citadel in the central province of Quang Tri in 1972. The second entitled Legend in Era of Fire and Flower will praise the heroic deeds of the Vietnamese army.

Historical witnesses who joined and contributed to glorious feats of arms will re-unite and reminisce at the performance on the occasion of commemorating the foundation of the Viet Nam People’s Army (December 22, 1944) and the 20th anniversary of the Viet Nam All People’s Defence Day (December 22).
