Director Dang Nhat Minh’s Dung Dot (Don’t Burn) was awarded the highest cinematic prize by the Ministry of Defence last week from among the thousands of pieces of literature, art and journalism featuring the armed forces and revolutionary wars published over the past five years.

The film judging council of the ministry has noted that the film, which focuses on simple life of war martyr doctor Dang Thuy Tram during the American War, is a cinematic work full of sorrow and heroism.

The film just won the prestigious Golden Lotus Prize and an award chosen by the judging panel and media at the 16th Viet Nam Film Festival last week.

It also won the Fukuoka Audience Award at the 19th Fukuoka Film Festival in Japan in September.

The ministry gave a total of 207 prizes to the creators of various genres including fine arts, music, photography, dance, theatre, literature and media. The Vietnam News Agency and other press agencies were given certificates of merit for their contributions in covering stories on the armed forces and revolutionary wars.

According to the judges, numerous young authors have covered the lives of today’s soldiers and succeeded in helping develop ways to solve various problems facing soldiers.

In addition, in contrast with the past, material has reflected more diverse and difficult subject matter, creating a more rounded image of the armed forces and revolutionary wars, they said.

The prizes are awarded every five years.
