Vietnam’s representative at the 2010 Oscars “Don’t Burn” is rejected from a shortlist of movies entering the next round for The Best Foreign Film category.

Minh Huong plays doctor Dang Thuy Tram in “Don’t Burn”.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced nine movies which will go to the next round of the 82nd Academy Award. All of the selected films have won many prestigious awards.

Among them are Germany’s “The White Ribbon” (The Golden Globe Award 2010 for the Best Foreign Film), France’s “Un Prophete” (The winner of the Grand Award of the jury of the Cannes Film Festival 2009 and the nominee of the Golden Palm Award 2009 and the Golden Globe Award 2010) and Peru’s “The Milk of Sorrow” (Golden Bear Award and the FIPRESCI Prize at the Berlin Film Festival 2009). These are the most outstanding foreign movies at Oscar 2010.

The remaining films are representatives of Argentina (El Secreto de Sus Ojos), Australia (Samson & Delilah), Bulgaria (The World Is Big and Salvation Lurks Around the Corner), Israel (Ajami), Kazakhstan (Kelin) and the Netherlands (Winer in Wartime).

It is a surprise that notable movies like Canada’s “I Killed My Mother”, China’s “Forever Enthralled”, South Korea’s “Mother” and Romania’s “Police, Adjective” were rejected.

The Academy Award 2010 ceremony will take place in Los Angeles, USA on March 7.
