Vietnamese children’s paintings exhibited in Paris

An exhibition of 140 outstanding paintings by Vietnamese children aged between 6 and 14 is being held in Paris from January 5-31.

Vietnam’s Ambassador to UNESCO, Van Nghia Dung, and a large number of overseas Vietnamese as well as many French people attended the opening ceremony.

The event was organised by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Vietnam Cultural Central in France.

Some of these paintings have won prestigous prizes in Egypt, India, the US, Japan, Hungary and Turkey.

Hungarian Book Week opens in Hanoi

A Hungarian Book Week opened at the Hanoi Library on January 6 to celebrate the 60 years of Vietnam-Hungary friendship.

The event was organised by the Embassy of Hungary in Vietnam in coordination with the Thanh Nien (Youth) Publishing House. Present at the opening ceremony were the Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam, Vizi Laszlo, the director of the Translation Fund of the Hungarian Book, Karolyi Dora, and poet Falusi Maron.

The book week aims to introduce 30 Hungarian books for readers and over 20 Hungarian books translated into Vietnamese. During the event, visitors will have a chance to meet translators Le Xuan Giang and Nguyen Hong Nhung and see some Hungarian films.

The Hungarian Book Week will last until January 9.

2,000 ancient artefacts found in Khanh Hoa

Archaeologists from the Archaeology Institute and the museum of Khanh Hoa province have discovered more than 2,000 objects dating back to 2,000-2,500 years ago at the Vinh Yen archaeological site in Van Ninh district.They included 2,000 stone tools, 24 metal objects like coins and bells, 190 ceramic objects like vases, bowls and pots, and more than 10 tonnes of pottery.

While carrying out excavations between July and December 2009, the archaeologists also found six tombs and 17 graves.
