Korean-American violinist Sarah Chang won the hearts of her local audience at a performance in Hanoi on Friday night, local reports said. | |||||||
âChang and American pianist Andrew von Oeyen shined together in the glory of music,â online newspaper VietNamNet said in its review. VnExpress described Changâs performance as âcharmingâ and âardentâ, saying the audience in Hanoi âcould not take their eyes off her.â The 29 year old violin virtuoso played several world-renowned classical masterpieces by Brahms and Franck at the 14th annual Hennessy Concert. Chang also performed a concerto written especially for her by American composer Christopher Theofanidis. At the end of the concert, Chang and pianist von Oeyen took their bows several times but a cheering audience did not want them to go, VietNamNet reported. To their delight, Chang played Salut Dâamour by Adward Elgar and an excerpt from Vivaldiâs Four Seasons before the curtain fell. Born in Philadelphia to Korean parents, Sarah Chang began her violin studies at age 4. She has performed with most major orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Chang was honored as a Young Global Leader for 2008 by the World Economic Forum for her professional accomplishments, commitment to social causes and potential to shape the future of the world. In 2006, she was named by Newsweek Magazine as one of the Twenty Top Women on Leadership. Source: Thanh Nien, Agencies |
