Champa culture exhibition in Danang; Ha Long Tourism Festival to kick off next month; Lancome brand chooses Vietnamese-American instructor; Feature film on President Ho Chi Minh to be screened

Champa culture exhibition in Da Nang

The Cham Sculpture Museum in Da Nang has opened an exhibition of antiques from Champa that were excavated in My Son. They will also feature a photo exhibition of the Central Highlands to celebrate the city’s 35th Liberation Day.

The Champa culture exhibition offers pictures of archaeological activities in My Son, conducted by the French School of the Far East and the My Son archaeological project as well as a collection of terra-cotta antiques sourced from My Son.

Audiences will also have a chance to see documents and drawings by French archaeologist Henri Parmentier and Polish architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski.

The photo exhibition of the Central Highlands introduces 54 photos on the life of ethnic minority people by Lam Tu Khoa, a former official of the Da Nang Museum.

The two exhibitions will last until March 29.

Ha Long Tourism Festival to kick off next month

The 2010 Ha Long Tourism Festival will take place in the northern border province of Quang Ninh from April 29 to May 2.

Visitors to the event will have an opportunity to participate in various activities, such as a beauty pageant, a photo exhibition of Ha Long Bay, a concert, boat-racing, a music performance and fireworks display.

A trade fair and an annual conference on the world’s most beautiful bays will also be held.

Currently, Quang Ninh province is completing preparatory work for the festival in many resort areas, such as Bay Chay beach and Mong Cai border gate. The province has invested nearly VND40 billion to build a large stage at Bay Chay beach as a major venue for the opening ceremony of the festival.

Ha Long Bay has been twice recognised by UNESCO as the World Heritage for its natural beauty and geology.

Lancome brand chooses Vietnamese-American instructor

Michelle Phan, a Vietnamese-American student from Florida has been contracted by make-up brand Lancome to serve as its first make up instructor via video clips.

Phan, 22, joins a list of high-profile celebrities, including movie stars Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, supermodel Daria Werbowy and make-up expert Sandy Linter, as Lancome’s worldwide ambassadors.

She will work under the brand’s auspices to film video clips that instruct viewers in the art of make-up.

Phan has been a YouTube phenomenon for the last two year with her self-made make-up instruction video clips scoring 117 million hits and her own YouTube-based site attracting more than half a million members.

Feature film on President Ho Chi Minh to be screened

Vietnamese people and international friends will gain a better understanding of late President Ho Chi Minh’s life through a film titled “Look to the sea” made by the Vietnam Cinematography Association.

The film will be screened on Liberation Day (April 30) and May 19 to mark President Ho Chi Minh’s 120th birthday. It tells the story of the years when President Ho Chi Minh carried out revolutionary activities in Hue city and other central localities.

Based on real historical documents, playwright Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat wrote the script of the film, which won the second prize at a contest in response to the “Study and follow the President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example” campaign.

Da Nang ready for int’l fireworks contest 2010

Da Nang will host its second international firework contest on March 27-28 under the theme of “Huyen thoai song Han” (the Legendary Han River), attracting five teams from the US, Japan, France, Portugal and the host Vietnam.

The event is held to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Da Nang’s Liberation Day and leads-up to the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

On a large and professional scale, the contest is expected to bring impressive and unique firework performances to viewers.

To date, the installment of 26,000 seats in A and B grand stands carried out by the Dong Duong industrial investment construction JSC is 85 percent complete.
