The winners of the Phan Chau Trinh Cultural Awards 2009 were named on March 19 at a press conference in HCM City.

Translator Le Minh Anh, who wins the Phan Chau Trinh Award 2009 for translation.

For 2009 the education award will be presented to Prof. Ho Ngoc Dai. The translation award belongs to translators Pham Vinh Cu and Le Anh Minh. The research award goes to poet Inrasara Phu Tram and the award for Vietnamese studies belongs to Prof. Georges Condominas.

Prof. Ho Ngoc Dai, doctor of psychology, has devoted 30 years of his life to education. He won the Phan Chau Trinh Award 2009 education award for “Ho Ngoc Dai’s Educational Technology”.

Prof. Pham Vinh Cu has translated many works on Russian culture, literature and ideology, while translator Le Anh Minh won the Phan Chau Trinh Award for translation for a two-volume history of Chinese philosophy.

Inrasara is known as a poet, but he is also researches Cham culture and is the author of many works on Cham culture and literature.

Ethnologist Georges Condominas, nearly 90, has researched and written many studies of Vietnam, such as We Have Eaten the Forest, and he is still engaged in writing more. Condominas has published three books about Vietnam in the Vietnamese language.

The awards ceremony will be held on March 24 in Hanoi.

The Phan Chau Trinh Cultural Foundation belongs to the Union of Vietnamese Scientific and Technological Associations. It was set up in 2007 by a group of scholars to honor valuable research works in the fields of education, translation and Vietnamese studies.
