An ancient Cham shrine was discovered in the Mo Duc District of the central province of Quang Ngai on December 28.

Dr. Nguyen Dang Vu, director of the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, unexpectedly uncovered the relic in the garden of Bien Tan Ngoc, 87, during his journey to the countryside.

The relic includes an intact set of stone linga and yoni (representations of human genitalia derived from Hinduism, used by the Cham in their worship). According to Vu, this is the first fully intact set of linga and yoni found in the province.

The set stands 20 cm in height with an 18 cm diameter and 61 cm perimeter, and dates back to the 10th or 11th century, according to Dr. Vu.
