Hanoi Goethe Institute to showcase Long Bien
Published: 24/01/2011 05:00
The Goethe Institute in Hanoi will launch an exhibition showing photos and films on scenes around Long Bien District in Hanoi.  “Long Bien Picture Show” will feature more than 140 photos and films aimed at making the best use of free artistic creativity.  The exhibition aims to explore the capitol’s Long Bien area, a district lying to the north of the Red River, as a microcosm of an urban society.  The district includes farm land and a municipal airport.  One of the attractions of the district is the Long Bien Bridge, the first steel bridge crossing the red river, built by French people between 1899 and 1902, first named Doumer.  The pictures and films were taken over the course of the past three months.  Many of the images document abnormal, everyday situations as they unfold.  The works were produced by four photographers, Barnaby Churchill Stelle, Boris Zuliani, Tran Xiu Thuy Khanh and Jamie Maxtone-Graham, and four filmmakers Tran Thi Anh Phuong, Pham Thu Hang, Do Van Hoang and Tran Thanh Hien.  Visitors are welcome to the space starting at 9 a.m. Film screenings will begin starting at 6:30 p.m. at the institute, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street.  The exhibition is sponsored by the British Council and entrance is free.  A photo by Jamie Maxtone-Graham Source: Thanh Nien |
