VietNamNet Bridge
– Sales of Japanese cooking in Vietnam
has reduced because of Vietnamese housewives’ worries of radioactive infected
food.

Radioactive clouds have spread to Southeast
Asia. Though radioactivity has not been discovered in Vietnam
yet, many Vietnamese housewives have stopped purchasing Japanese food.

“I used to buy Japanese powdered milk to my children but in
this situation, I have replaced it with
Australian milk,” said Mrs. Hoa in HCM City.

Loan, the owner of a food shop in Hanoi,
said that her company has stopped importing powdered milk from Japan.
She said the need for Japanese powdered milk has fell sharply for a week. She
said she will resume importing milk from Japan when the situation is back to
normal.

Mrs. Kieu, 54, from HCM
City, said that her husband was
addicted to Japanse spawn but after the nuclear incident in Japan, she has not bought it again.

At supermarkets in HCM City,
the volume of Japanese goods accounts for less than one percent of the total
goods, mainly confectionery, drink, vegetable and dried fruit.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Director Marximark Cong Hoa
supermarket chain, said that there is a small quantity of Japanese goods in
stock but the requirement is also low so it is no worry.

She said the latest batch of Japanese goods ordered on March
11 will be tested for radioactivity.

Nguyen Quoc Hung, manager of a supermarket specialized on
Japanese goods in District 3, said that many customers asked about quality of
Japanese goods but being explained that the goods were imported before the
nuclear incident, they still bought the products.
