Binh Thuan attracts more visitors in 2008

VietNamNet BridgeIn the first nine months of this year the central coastal province of Binh Thuan attracted about 1.5 million tourists, among them 150,000 foreign visitors from Korea, France, Russia, the U.S., Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, Japan, China and Japan.

The total number of tourists is a 34.6% increase year-on-year and achieves 74.8% of this year’s initial plan. The rise in numbers led to an increase in total revenue, which hit VND1 trillion; 83.3% of the year’s target and up 33% year-on-year.

In September alone, Phan Thiet lured 172,450 tourists with annual festivals, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival and Kite Festival, of whom 9,600 were foreign visitors, equal to 5.6% of the whole number.

In addition to activities offered in the festivals, Binh Thuan also offers special tourist packages and products.

* For this occasion, Binh Thuan is holding the traditional Dinh Thay Thim Festival, a colorful festival featuring myths and legends.

The festival will be held in accordance with the nature of the province and with some unique features to raise awareness in loving the motherland and leading a meaningful life. The festival reminds people their ancestors, who sacrificed themselves to establish and protect the country, and also gives a helping hand to the poorest in the region.

The three-day festival will last from October 12 to 14, and aims this year to preserve and extend cultural characteristics of Lagi town of the province.

Activities in the festival includes Tam Tan Village’s loading fish contest, flying lanterns, firing gold lame fireworks, drum performance, a play performance titled “The legend of Thay Thim” and crossing sandy hill of Ong Bang contest.
