Binh Thuan Province has been receiving a lot of attention of late. A 1.5km long, 15-20m wide and up to 2m thick deposit of rocks of many colours, estimated to weigh over 243,000 tonnes

Some artworks made from 7-colour rocks, such as “One-pillar Pagoda”, the poem “Enjoying moonlight” and ship-shaped rocks.

To arrive at this unique ocean side site at sunset, that is recorded in Vietnam ’s Guinness Book of Records as “the ground of rocks of many shapes and colours”, one can take advantage of the cooling sea breeze as it dispatches the heat radiating off the barren rocky area. The multicoloured path of stones winds along the coastline only to be interrupted by larger rocks that nature indiscriminately places to add to the awesome sight.

Rock parterres, each designed from one colour, in the garden of Pham Quang Phap.

Not far away from here is the home of Pham Quang Phap, a retired Lieutenant Colonel, who is affectionately known as “the man who adds soul to rocks”. He has created a series of rock parterres, each designed from one colour.

Inside his house, there are various pieces of art created by colourful rocks, such as a map of Vietnam, One-Pillar Pagoda, “Nhan” script, landscape, ship-shaped rocks, etc. Pham Quang Phap also used rocks to create artworks reflecting interesting poems in the poem collection “The Prison Diary” by President Ho Chi Minh.

Pham Quang Phap said that he discovered the wonders of rocks at the beach in his homeland and collected them to create his artworks. “Although it is said that rocks have only seven colours, I collected 130 rocks with different colours, such as turquoise, green, violet, dark pink, light pink, pink with violet or red, etc.,” he said.

Thanks to its uniqueness, the place has attracted an increasing number of tourists.
