Ocean fresh food

Known for its raucous nightlife, Vung Tau is also an ideal place to unwind with a quiet seafood dinner by the sea. | |||||||
Enjoying Vung Tau’s freshest seafood is the perfect capstone after spending a day doing absolutely nothing on the beach. Tom mu ni (trilby shrimp) is one of Vung Tau’s tastiest dishes, though it originated on the remote island of Phu Quoc.
The shrimp is delectable steamed, roasted with tamarind or grilled with butter and garlic. The fragrant and sweet shelled shrimp costs around VND 690,000 per kilogram. There are a lot of places to taste tom mu ni in Vung Tau. Ganh Hao Restaurant and Tre Restaurant are two of the best. They both offer an array of dishes: raw oysters, langostino lobsters, turtles, tom tich (a shrimp from Nha Trang Bay) and crabs. The tangy Goi hai san, or seafood hotpot, should not be missed either. Many restaurants in Vung Tau are on the beach and there is nothing quite like the ocean-fresh seafood with a sea view at sunset or twilight. According to Ganh Hao manager Thao, her seafood is taken directly from local boats. Vung Tau is 45 minutes from Ho Chi Minh City by speedboat, or about two-hour drive.
