The Tan Son Nhat International Airport’s domestic terminal will resume full operation starting today after a temporary halt due to a fire on October 27.

The Southern Airport Corporation has carried out repair works to refurbish the terminal’s 12,000 square meters, including 62 check-in kiosks, 12 boarding gates and the first three enclosed passageways for passengers.

The terminal had stopped its services for a week, during which only Jetstar Pacific was able to function in it, all others using the international terminal. Passengers entered the second terminal via the ground floor.

The fire occurred at 2:50 a.m. in the business-class passenger section on the first floor of the domestic terminal building.

It took about 40 minutes for firefighters to arrive at the scene because they received the alarm late from airport authorities. They managed to bring the fire under control at 4:30 a.m. and quell it completely by 6 a.m.

All roads leading to the airport were cordoned off until 9 a.m. the same day.

The fire destroyed an area of 200 square meters in the domestic terminal and several other stores at the airport, authorities said, adding no one was injured in the incident.

Seventeen flights were delayed as a result of the fire.
