VietNamNet Bridge – The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) has confirmed that Hong Kong Airlines has temporarily stopped its five flights per week between Hong Kong and HCM City, without revealing the reason.

A former staff member of the Hong Kong Airlines office in HCM City said the firm stopped its flights to HCM City because of lacking the required aircrafts and lower rates of seat occupancy.

This firm had to fiercely compete with Cathay Pacific and Vietnam Airlines on the Hong KongHCM City route when the need for air travel falls in the context of global economic slowdown.

Cathay Pacific, one of the world leading airlines, is offering two flights per day between Hong Kong and HCM City while Vietnam Airlines also has daily flights on this route.

Hong Kong Airlines also had to compete with Dragonair, another airway belonging to the Cathay Pacific group, which also provides daily Hong KongHanoi flights.

Hong Kong Airlines now has four flights per week between Hong Kong and Hanoi, on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.
