Leaders of the central provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Gia Lai and Kon Tum Sunday signed an agreement to ask Vietnam Airlines (VNA) for a HCMC-Phu Cat-Hanoi direct route.

The four provinces requested VNA to upgrade the facilities at Phu Cat Airport in Binh Dinh Province for Airbus planes A320 and A321 to operate three flights a week, beginning before Lunar New Year Tet holiday, January 26, 2009.

Previously, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had approved the plan and had asked relevant agencies including VNA to speed up the process, to meet the demands of traveling locals and investors to intensify socio-economic growth in the central coastal and Central Highlands provinces.
