A hot pot for one person served in Chen Restaurant in HCMC’s District 3

There’s a new restaurant chain selling hot pots for one for busy people who just want a quick delicious meal.

Hot pots are usually served to a group, but a restaurant chain in Ho Chi Minh City is popularizing the hot pot just for one. This new style caters to people on the run who want to enjoy their favorite meal without organizing a party.

The Chen Restaurant chain specializes in serving one-person hot pots. The restaurants are cool and airy with smokeless coal cookers for customers to do their own grilling or hot pots. It’s an improvement over other eateries where the air is full of smoke and cooking smells from every table.

At Chen restaurants, there are dozens of different hot pots to choose from such as the chicken and mushroom, chicken and medicinal herb, Thai, and seacooking. Hungry customers are given a cooker, a pot of broth, a dish of

ingredients such as meat, fish, shrimp, and vegetables, and sauces all for about VND50,000 (US$2.9) per serving.

Diners at Chen’s keep returning for more hot pots because of the delicious broth flavored with the sweet taste of stewed bones, fresh herbs and vegetables. Each dish has its own distinctive broth; for instance, the chicken broth is a different hot pot base from the seafood hot pot. Most other restaurants use the same broth for every hot pot.

Drinks such as fruit juice, coffee and yogurt are served at VND20,000-25,000 ($1.20-1.50) per glass.

Now you can have a hot pot even when you are on your own.
