Cathay Pacific Airways has reduced its fuel surcharge on the Hong Kong-Hanoi and Hong Kong-Ho Chi Minh City sectors.

The Hong Kong-based carrier said in a statement that the new surcharge, effective from February 1, is HK$61 (US$7.8), a 44 percent drop from the previous level of HK$108.

It is applicable only for the next two months and the carrier “would continue to consider it from April, subject to the stability of the world fuel prices,” Vivian Nguyen, public relations and marketing manager of Cathay Pacific Vietnam, told Thanh Nien Daily Wednesday.

The new surcharge is also applicable for Cathay Pacific’s short-haul flights to other destinations in Northeast and Southeast Asia.

For long-haul flights, the carrier has reduced the surcharge to HK$280 ($35.9) from HK$499, also effective until March 31.
