VietNamNet Bridge - Phu Quoc Island has beaten Ha Long Bay, the most popular destination in 2007, to top the 2008 – 2009 tourism list, according to an SGGP survey of 1,000 people in HCM City.

Phu Quoc heads the Top Ten and is followed by: Nha Trang, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Sapa, Hue city, Ha Noi, Da Lat, Mui Ne and Con Dao.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong topped the most popular overseas destination list, followed by Singapore.

Thailand still attracts visitors, at third place, despite political upheaval last year.

45 percent of people wanted tour companies to cut their prices to attract more visitors, while 35 percent wanted tourism to improve quality and 20 percent suggested they open new tours.

Just under 62 percent said they would try to save money for travelling despite the economic situation getting worse.

The survey found most people travel to relax while others travel to visit cultural and historical landmarks.
