Although it is located in the downtown area of Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta, the Japanese-style Java Café is a quiet place.

It’s not large and the exterior façade and interior décor are nothing fancy yet Java has an exclusive look.

Upon entering the café, you might be surprised to see “Japanese” employees standing by the door waiting to seat you and your fellow diners. They wear kimonos to match the overall theme.

Java Café has three stories. The first floor is simple in design and furnished with rattan tables and chairs to create a cozy and environmentally friendly setting.

On the second floor is a room for the art of drinking tea with pictures of flowers, birds, mountains and watery landscapes on the walls, along with colorful sayings about meditation.

The stillness makes the tea room an ideal place to relax or work.

The third floor is an open area with white parasols, fresh air and good views of Can Tho, which looks best at night. Here, patrons can be as noisy as they wish without disturbing the neighbors.

Java serves a wide range of cooking and drinks costing VND25,000-35,000 (US$1.40-1.90) each. Apart from the usual coffee, chocolate and fruit juice, the café serves tea as a special beverage.

Patrons can have pleasant moments drinking tea in the quiet atmosphere. They can temporarily forget their sorrows and worries chat with their relatives and friends.

What makes Java Café different from other cafés in the city is that it has “Java Diaries” - a small notebook placed on each table for patrons to write down their feelings, tell stories and give advice.

The notebooks allow patrons to tell others about their lives and thoughts.

Java Café is located at 160 30/4 Street in Ninh Kieu District. To get there from Can Tho Ferry, drive along Tran Hung Dao Street, turn into Nguyen Trai Street, and go through the roundabout to enter 30/4 Street.
