LookAtVietnam – Located seven kilometers west of Quang Nam province’s Tam Ky city, Phu Ninh lake, on an area of over 3,000 hectares and with over 30 islands, is an ideal destination for camping, hiking and fishing for the summer holidays.

A view of Phu Ninh lake.
The lake, created by three spillways in Tam Xuan, Tam Dan and Tam Dai communes in the town’s Phu Ninh district, is surrounded by mountains, so the weather is pristine and the area abounds in biological diversity.

There are 70 species of trees, 170 species of medicinal plants and innumerable fruit species. The creatures found here are also worthy of attention, with 34 kinds of mammals, 26 kinds of reptiles and 14 kinds of flora and fauna listed on the red list as rare and valuable animals such as red-faced monkeys, wolves and chamois-like horses.

Due to its stunning landscape and biological diversity, the lake was recognized as a national landscape last month by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The way leading to the lake is shaded by endless pine and sandalwood trees. Once arriving, tourists should rent a boat or a canoe to drift around islands endowed with many splendid landscapes. Small bays, streams, rocks and trees add a fascinating ambiance to the experience.

Travelers should not miss the hot spring in Chap Tra valley, where water can reach temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius. Local people believe that the water here is very good and healthy and prevents and treats some diseases.

After an excursion around the lake, tourists can find luxurious rest at one of the resorts in the nearby forest where the tranquility of the poetic landscape, the sweet birdsong and the flying fish replace a hectic cityscape, cacophonous traffic lockups and bad television.

Fishing at Phu Ninh lake is good at noon when the fish are hungry. Rowing to the islets and then dropping a line, tourists surely can have a fish barbecue party. Staying overnight with a campfire on Su island is another fun option.

Phu Ninh lake, one of the country’s largest irrigational systems, broke ground in 1997 and became operational 10 year later. Therefore, the lake is not only an attractive destination, but also serves locals for irrigation and hydroelectricity.
