| New air route to Cambodia tipped; Tourism info kiosks set up in HCMC; War memorabilia displayed in Ha Noi; Da Nang prepares for fireworks festival
According to the Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia (SSCA), Vietnam Airlines and SSCA are conducting a feasibility study for the two new routes. The chairman of the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents, Ho Vandy, said both Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang Province and Can Tho city were attractive tourism centres in Viet Nam. Once launched, the weekly flights will help transport a large number of foreign tourists to Cambodia, he added. Tourism info kiosks set up in HCMC Vina Media Joint-Stock Co on Sunday began installing the first tourism information kiosks in HCM City, part of a plan to set up 50 such kiosks in the city over a two-week period. Le Hoang Yen, general director of the company, said the kiosks would be installed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, shopping centres, office buildings and other commercial venues frequented by visitors. The information will mainly be in English, with some in Vietnamese. Vina Media will update the information every month. War memorabilia displayed in Ha Noi Some 450 war items are on display at an exhibition called Everlasting War Keepsakes which runs until November 10 at the Viet Nam History Museum in Ha Noi. The exhibition features arms, medals, soldiers’ belongings, photos and letters, all selected from 5,300 keepsakes collected from a campaign launched in July last year by the Viet Nam War Veterans Association. The organisers praised people who donated a large number of objects to the display, such as former General Secretary Le Kha Phieu and General Nguyen Van Ich who gave 312 letters he and his wife wrote to each other from 1962 to 1975. Da Nang prepares for fireworks festival The central coastal city of Da Nang will hold its third international fireworks competition over the Han River on March 27 to celebrate it’s 35 years of liberation. Four wellknown competitors from the US, Japan, France and Portugal will join the contest which is themed Legend of the Han River, according to Malaysian-owned Global 2000 Company, the festival consultant. New tour of Con Dao Island available Saigontourist Travel Service Company is offering a three-day tour called “Con Dao’s Memory Itinerary” for VND2,925,000 (US$164) between November 1 and December 31. The tour, which departs on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, takes visitors to Co Ong and Lo Voi villages, Hang Keo and Hang Duong cemeteries, the local museum, and Phu Hai and Phu Son prisons to offer a glimpse of Vietnamese history. The tour also stops at the pristine Dam Trau and Bai Nhat beaches, Ben Dam Wharf and Da Trang Beach with its white rocks. Gong exhibition in Ha Noi An exhibition of nearly 90 photos of gongs of ethnic minorities from the Central Highlands will open at the Ethnology Museum in Ha Noi’s Cau Giay District today. The photos were taken by French army generals, officials, missionaries and scholars in the mid-20th century, and were selected mainly by the French School of the Far East, the Paris Foreign Missions Society and Quai Branly museum in Paris. The exhibition, which will run until February 7, is a warm-up for the international Gong Festival which takes place in Gia Lai from November 12 to 15. VietNamNet/Viet Nam News |
