| Saigon is an interesting place for locals and foreigners alike. What makes it even more charming are its floating restaurants on the Saigon River. During weekends these restaurants are often the choice of venue for people to enjoy dinners with their families, colleagues, and friends because of their unique styles and serving methods. Not only can one have delicious meals on the river with their friends or loved ones but can also enjoy the breeze and the peaceful atmosphere of the night coupled with the sound of waves gently lapping against the sides of the vessels. There are many floating restaurants â“ like the Saigon Restaurant Cruise Ship, Bonsai Cruise Ship, and Indochinese Sailboat.
Each of them is of a different size. The Saigon Restaurant Cruise Ship is so large it can seat 600 people while the Bonsai Cruise Ship can accommodate 120 and the Indochinese Sailboat, only 50. Stepping on to the ships, one can immediately leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind. The restaurantsâ staff stand in two lines to welcome visitors. A first-time customer is immediately impressed as the vessel weighs anchor and blows the horn, and waiters in their neat navy costumes solemnly stand in line. The Saigon Restaurant Cruise Ship is located at Bach Dang Wharf in District 1. It serves Asian and European dishes on all days of the week from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. On its first and second decks, customers can enjoy Asian cuisines such as Vietnamese and Chinese and enjoy live music from 7 p.m. On the third deck, diners can enjoy the views of Saigon by night while eating cooking that is completely different from that of the two lower decks: It is cooked European style. But traditional dishes like steamed tiger prawns with coconut juice, seafood hot pot, and steamed crab with beer remain the most popular. At around 8:30 p.m. the ship begins to weigh anchor to sail along the river and it returns at 9:30 p.m. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday the restaurant offers a âRelaxing on the Saigon Riverâ buffet as it cruises past Bach Dang Wharf, Thanh Da Peninsula, and Binh Quoi Tourist Village. The menu has more than 50 delicious dishes like grilled prawn with wasabi and mayonnaise sauce, seaweed and shrimp salad, and mushroom and seafood hot pot. Besides making the food, the chefs also teach patrons to cook. Magic shows and live music further enliven the cruises. Tickets are priced at VND150,000 for adults and VND100,000 for children.
