VietNamNet Bridge – Carrying babies on boats to chase tourist boats to beg for money has become a problem for tourists in Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh province).

Boats of vendors and beggars have appeared near the Bai Chay wharf for a long time.

Some boats carry kids. They go around to wait for tourist boats. When tourist boats come,

they surround to ask tourists to purchase fruits or beg for money.

These people are called “cha” – the word for fishermen in Ha Long Bay.

Locals said that many “cha” not only work as fishermen but also as vendors and beggars.

They firstly ask tourists to purchase fruits.

If tourists don’t buy, they let their child beg for money through the ship window.

They chase after tourist boats.

All of them are women who carry children with them.

Some use racquets with long handles to stretch out to the boat to beg for money.
