On June 4, the antique was excavated by People’s committee of Quang Ngai and Doan Anh Duong Ltd in Chau Thuan Bien hamlet, Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province.

After an hour of excavating, hundreds of antiques were found such as plates, bowls, incense-burners, etc. Most of them were broken and damaged.

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Chieu, deputy director of Vietnam History Museum, said the majority of antiques had the date of the 14th century. Some of them were in Tran dynasty.

Mr. Nguyen Dang Vu, director of Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai provincce, said the old ship was 24 meters in length and 5 meters in width.

He added “today, the main work is to absorb water and sand to reveal the ship and to facilitate the measurement and the excavation. According to the plan, it will take about a month to complete the excavation.”

All antiques will be classified, packaged and then taken to Quang Ngai Museum.
