VietNamNet Bridge – A Chinese newspaper on December 27 reported that many Chinese companies publicly advertised technology to produce fake eggs. The Vietnamese Food Safety Agency on December 28 confirmed that it had not detected fake eggs in Vietnam.

The Chinese newspaper described in detail how to make fake eggs. Major materials are sodium alginate, CaCO3, CaO, cooking coloring and honey wax. There are three steps to make fake eggs: creating the egg white and egg yolk; fixing the egg yolk and putting egg yolk inside egg white; and making the cover.

To create egg white, the producer only needs to mix sodium alginate with water. Putting coloring into this solution, the producer will have egg yolk. The fake egg yolk is then put into a mould with the same size of an egg yolk, then dipped quickly into CaO solution. The surface of the fake egg yolk will quickly turn into a thin layer which looks exactly like the real egg yolk.

About a minute later the egg yolk is fixed. The producer puts the egg yolk into the egg white, uses a thread to pierce the fake egg, dips it into the solution of honey wax and CaCO3, then puts it into cold water and withdraws the thread. The fake egg is available.

Vietnamese people are very worried about the information because Chinese eggs are very popular in Vietnam.

On December 28, Nguyen Cong Khan, chief of the Food Hygiene and Safety Agency confirmed with the media that Vietnam had not detected fake eggs yet.

However, Khan said that relevant agencies should be vigilant and the agency would continue to investigate fake eggs.
