The Department for Management of Overseas Labor has instructed manpower exporting companies to stop sending Vietnamese workers to Libya, where hundreds of people died in strikes. Around 10,000 Vietnamese workers are now working in Libya. The department asked labor exporting companies to keep an eye on the situation in Libya and to timely report to the Vietnamese Embassy in Libya in case the lives, job and income of Vietnamese workers are affected. The department also asked these firms to tell their workers to avoid the sites of strikes and to not go to crowded places. At present, there are ten Vietnamese companies sending workers to Libya and they were told to stop sending new workers to the country. Of 10,000 Vietnamese builders in Libya, around 2000 work in Benghazi where the uprising began. The remaining workers are in Tripoli and its neighboring areas. Most of construction sites have been closed and Vietnamese workers have been asked to stay in their rooms or evacuated to safe places with cooking supplies. Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, chief of the Department for Management of Overseas Labor, told VNExpress that relevant agencies will try to guarantee the safety of Vietnamese workers. In dangerous cases, they will be removed from dangerous areas and brought home. According to foreign news agencies, nearly 300 people have died from violence since the wave of demonstrations against the government boomed in Libya on February 17. PV |
