VietNamNet Bridge – On July 30 Vietnamese beauty Huong Giang received the crown for Miss Grand Slam Asia from Global Beauties, a worldwide famous website on beauty pageants.

Huong Giang is the first Vietnamese girl to win the title, which was voted on by a 15-member independent judging panel from Global Beauties.

According to Global Beauties organizing manager Edwin Dominguez, Huong Giang’s success is a watershed moment for Vietnam in the world of beauty. He said his organization will make a survey in Vietnam.

Huong Giang also became an ambassador of Operation Smile and the “Thuy’s Dream” program for children’s cancer patients the same day.

At the ceremony on July 30, Huong Giang auctioned her painting “Miss World Arms”, which has the signatures of beauty queens from 81 countries who participated in the Miss World 2009, to raise fund for the “Thuy’s Dream” program.

Model Anh Thu won the auction, paying $3500 for the painting. She agreed to give the painting to Pham Tan Nghia, a teacher from Vietnam-US Association English Centre, who came late, for the price of $10,000. Huong Giang collected $12,000 from this party for children’s cancer patients.

She was presented a Mercedes car for her contribution to charity programs.
