Antiques in King’s tomb stolen

Some antiques displayed in the right compartment of the Thien Dinh palace in King Khai Dinh’s tomb in the ancient capital city of Hue city were stolen at night on December 1.

According to Tuoi Tre newspaper, at least seven silver-made items were stolen.

The stolen items were displayed in the compartments that contain exhibits related to King Khai Dinh’s state, foreign affairs and daily life in the period of 1916-1925. The compartment was opened for tourists in the early 2006 by the Museum of Hue Royal Antiques.

Earlier, thieves broke into King Tu Duc’s tomb and King Dong Khanh’s tomb in 2008 and 2009 to steal antiques from Hoa Khiem and Ngung Hi palaces.

In mid-June 2010, the government agreed to invest VND2.3 trillion ($115 million) from now to 2020 to preserve the ancient capital city of Hue.
