VietNamNet Bridge – While Hanoi’s land is narrow and the land price is escalating, many villas in the newly constructed residential area of My Dinh are fallowed.

Dozens of villas were built on thousands of square meters of land in My Dinh several years ago, but they have never been used though their prices are hundreds of thousands of US dollars. These villas are now covered by grass and used by drug addicts.

This situation was also reported in many other new residential areas in the capital, causing great waste for the city. While many villas are left fallowed, many people did not have an inch of land or have to live in slump.

Dr. Pham Sy Liem, vice head of the Vietnam Construction Association, said that these fallow villas also make the city ugly and they show wasteful, unorganized land using plan

Liem also said that many cities with large populations don’t have as many villas as Hanoi does and villas are only for the wealthy. Once villas are sold they are used immediately or resold immediately, and are rarely left unused as in Hanoi.

It is said that these villas are owned by land speculators. When the estate market is frozen, they don’t want to finalize the construction of these villas to sell.

Local residents complained that the villas have become home to drug addicts and criminals.
