A documentary with shocking scenes about hunting wildlife has won the first prize of the 4th Environmental Film Festival, which closed in Hanoi on December 29.

Accepting submissions from September 23 through November 20, the festival attracted 131 movies of various categories – feature, documentary, reportage, cartoon and scientific films, the highest number ever.

The organizing board presented one Vietnam Green award, 4 first, six second, 5 third, five consolation prizes and 10 certificates of merit to individuals and groups.

Le Hoai Phuong’s “Jungle Crime” won the highest prize, the Vietnam Green Award.

The documentary covers a thorny problem in Vietnam: deforestation and hunting wildlife. Phuong’s valuable and accurate documentary strongly impressed the audience and the jury.

Senior director Vuong Duc won the first prize for feature film with “Black Forest”. The three other first-prize winning works are documentary “Modern Fable” by Gia Hung, reportage “Natural Disasters and Disasters Caused by Humans” by Trong Hoa and a cartoon “Tricks” by Nguyen Nhan Lap.

The festival is held each three years by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam Television (VTV), and Vietnam Movie Association to call for protection of the natural environment.

The 5th festival is scheduled in 2013.
