Handrail breaks, 7 students fall from second floor

During the break, the entire handrail of the second floor in a junior high school in the northern mountain province of Bac Kan suddenly broke. Seven sixth graders fell.

The accident occurred on January 10. The seven students were brought to a local hospital to be given first aid. Four of them were then transferred to the provincial polyclinic because of serious wounds.

One of them, Nguyen Tung Lam, 11, had two right arm bones broken with some injuries on his face. Another one, Nong Thi Ngoc, had two right arm bones broken. Her friend, Nong Thi Thao Trang suffered from spinal column injury. Another female student Duong Thi Ha Vy had many wounds on her face and on her right leg.

Provincial officials went to the hospital to visit the four injured students. The Bac Kan Chair instructed relevant agencies to investigate the accident, especially the quality of the school building.

The construction of this school started in 2006 and it has not finished yet.

Earlier, the handrail of a primary school in Hoang Mai district, Hanoi broke on December 21, 2010. Two students fell and were injured.
