VietNamNet Bridge – “Mountain Shadow,” the first part of the “Ten years after Trinh Cong Son” series of music shows took place at the HCM City Opera House on March 18.

The ticket prices were very high, from VND1-3.5 million/ticket ($50-175), but the theatre was fully occupied. At the end of the show, Son’s younger sister – Trinh Vinh Trinh - said thanks to the audience on behalf of her family.

“My brother has been away for ten years but my family still feels like he is still with us. After ten years, we entered his room and found 6,500 documents. They are the heritage of our family and they are not the heritage of every body,” Trinh said. After that she joined other artists to sing the song “I Will Remember” to show love to her brother.

The event attracted senior stars like Hong Nhung, Thanh Lam, My Linh, Cam Van and young stars like Nguyen Thao, Duc Tuan, Anh Bang and Quang Dung.

The same show will be performed at the Hanoi Opera House on March 25.

The series “Ten years after Trinh Cong Son” includes six music shows and two photo exhibitions. As well as two paid-for live shows, local students and audiences will also have a chance to watch four live shows, all entitled “Hue city – Sai Gon – Hanoi”, for free. These will be staged at Hanoi National University on March 27, An Dinh palace in Hue central city on March 30, Binh Quoi tourist village in HCMC on April 4, and HCMC National University on April 7.

Two photo exhibitions are scheduled to take place at HCMC Fine Arts Museum from April 2-10 and at Morin hotel in Hue from April 15-20.

The shows will feature performances from famous singers like Kasim Hoang Vu, Vietnam Idol 2010 Uyen Linh, Phuong Linh, and Lan Nha.

Trinh Cong Son (February 28, 1939 – April 1, 2001) was a Vietnamese composer, musician, painter and songwriter. He, along with Pham Duy and Van Cao, is widely considered one of the three most salient figures of modern Vietnamese music.

He wrote over 500 songs and was dubbed the ‘Bob Dylan of Vietnam’ for his moving antiwar compositions. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered at his funeral in HCM City, for a spontaneous ad hoc funeral concert, making such a spectacle the largest in Vietnamese history. His music remains very popular among both old and young Vietnamese.
