The Ministry of Science and Technology has announced to release daily reports on radioactive warnings, based on its observation of the situation in Japan.

The Ministry of Science and Technology has announced to release daily reports on radioactive warnings, based on its observation of the situation in Japan.

Deputy Minister Le Dinh Tien, said that “after incidents happened at Japan’s Fukushima 1 nuclear power plant, the ministry set up a group of experts to keep track of the situation at this plant and to contact with Japanese and foreign experts to update information to Vietnamese people about the incidents.”

As of March 16, the group has released a daily report about the incident at 6 pm, on the website of the Ministry of Science and Technology at , the website of the Nuclear and Radioactive Safety Agency at , and the website of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute at .

Dr. Dang Thanh Luong, Vice chief of the Nuclear and Radioactive Safety Agency, confirmed that Vietnam’s observation stations have not discovered any abnormal phenomenon in Vietnam.

The Da Lat Nuclear Research Institute and the Nuclear Technology Institute have measured radioactivity in the air, and stated that Vietnam is safe from radioactivity from Japan.

International experts estimated that radioactive clouds in Japan will float to the sea by March 18, and they will surely not affect Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Tien said, “the Ministry reported to the government and relevant agencies about the incident at Japan’s nuclear power plant. He emphasized: Vietnam has just started its nuclear power plan. Information and assessments of the incident in Japan will be the basis for Vietnam to make right decisions for the development of nuclear power in Vietnam”.

There are seven grades for nuclear events. According to international experts, the situation at Japan’s nuclear power plant is very dangerous, at the sixth grade.
