A
festival for young ethnic people will be held for the first time with the
participation of representatives from 54 ethnic groups from across the country.

Great entertainment:
It’s expected
that the ethnic festival will help ethnic youths preserve and promote their
traditional culture, which is a huge attraction for international tourists.

The event will take
place this weekend at the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups in
Dong Mo Commune, Son Tay Town, Ha Noi.

With the theme
“Vietnamese youth preserve and develop the traditional cultures of ethnic groups
in the renewal and integration period of the country”, the festival is being
organised to welcome the Viet Nam Ethnic Groups Cultural Day on April 19 and
respond to the Youth Year 2011, said Ho Anh Tuan, deputy minister of Culture,
Sports and Tourism.

The event was expected
to attract around 1,000 young representatives from ethnic groups nationwide.

“Through the festival,
ethnic youths will be reminded of their responsibility to preserve and promote
traditional culture,” he said.

“We hope the occasion
will attract tourists to the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups
to enjoy their cultural activities.”

A variety of
activities will take place during the festival. On Sunday, delegates will offer
flowers and incense to commemorate the war martyrs and visit Ho Chi Minh’s
Mausoleum in Ha Noi.

On the same day, a
workshop on preserving and developing traditional cultural values during the
renewal process will be organised with the participation of more than 100
representatives including researchers, regional authorities and young ethnic
people.

This will be an
opportunity for the young representatives to share their thoughts and plans to
preserve the cultural values of their ethnic groups.

A movement to
encourage young people from all over the country to donate objects on ethnic
culture to the Culture-Tourism Village of Vietnamese Ethnic Groups will be
launched at the workshop.

An art performance
titled Colours of Youth – Colours of Solidarity, will be broadcast live on Viet
Nam Television on Sunday.

During the two-day
festival, there will be a youth camp and a variety of folk games.

The event is being
organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ho Chi Minh
Communist Youth Union Central Committee, and the National Assembly’s Committee
for Ethnic Affairs.
