Eighty-seven (80.5 per cent) out of 108 factories have been removed from the
pollution black list in the southwestern province of Tay Ninh, said Nguyen

Environment yesterday, May 23.

Most of the factories
operate in the agricultural production sector.

Hoang said that waste
treatment in 13 medical centres was now the biggest challenge facing the
province because there were no funds from the Government to tackle the problem.

* Vietnamese
ignorant about air pollution

A recent survey by GE
Energy revealed that two out of three Vietnamese were not aware that fossil fuel
used to produce electricity was among the main causes of air pollution.

The survey also showed
that the understanding of the cause of air pollution was higher in regional
countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Only 27 per cent of
the Vietnamese surveyed cited fossil fuel as one of the leading causes of air
pollution, as opposed to 55 per cent of Singaporeans and 47 per cent of
Malaysians.
